Greek & New Testament
Introduction to Greek and New Testament Video
Year 1
The course aims to give the student a knowledge of basic New Testament Greek and also to impart a general understanding of the contents of the books of the New Testament, using the English version. Class lectures will be held monthly over two years. In these experience will be given in exegesis of selected passages from the Gospel of John one year and from Romans Chapter 8 the other year. Along with exegesis the student will gain knowledge of foundational teachings of the New Testament and engage in discussion of doctrinal and experimental aspects on these set passages. There will also be emphasis in class on how to present these teachings in the pulpit.
SCHEME OF READING
A Scheme of Reading and a Month-by-Month Schedule of Work will be issued to all students on commencement of their first year and it will be expected that they will, as far as possible, adhere to the requirements of this Scheme and Schedule, much of which they will have to do in their own time at home. In particular, it is essential that the student should work steadily through Wenham, from which he must submit exercises weekly to the lecturer for marking. In addition, the student should aim to collect the best commentaries on the New Testament and to supplement his Seminary work with his own study and reading in this field. Advice will be given as to which commentaries and other helpful books he should most seek to acquire for his lifetime’s service in the gospel ministry. Extra help with Greek grammar and language may be arranged with the lecturer as time may admit where a student feels his need for this. The lecturer may be contacted by e-mail or by telephone, out of class hours, if occasional help is needed.
